RX FOR RECOVERY -- "Recovery Jokes" are A GOOD LAUGH
Why you don't laugh as much as usual in recovery:
Aside from the fact that you are pretty much locked up and at one of the all-time lowpoints of your life, who can complain? The GOOD NEWS is, believe it or not things can rarely get worse than they have been for you. Just get sober and things start to improve and DO get better -- just never fast enough..
In the meantime, NOTHING helps more when you are in recovery than a really good, deep down "that was really HELLATIOUSLY funny" laugh. If you can, try to seek out the group that laughs the most and work your way into their circle. I have done rehab a few times and had years of sober living experience, so I'm telling you something here. There are usually a few jokers in the group and even if they can seem obnoxious a little bit, everybody laughs At him or WITH him -- it doesn't matter which, as long as they laugh. I am telling you if you can lighten up to the point where you laugh alot --the time will fly by, instead of dragging on with anxiety. There is nothing wrong with laughing yourself through rehab, as long as you take the recovery "lessons" seriously...cuz they ain't no joke.
Knowing you still have a sense of humor despite where you have landed yourself is very healthy. And if it doesn't come naturally at first, just keep trying. Laughing elevates the dopamine levels in your brain -- an important "feel good" neuro-chemical which everybody in recovery doesn't have enough of. You are generally depressed in early recovery because your brain got flooded with dopamine every time you got loaded -- so much so that your brain let a few of the dopamine "pickup" receptors on certain brain cells dwindle in number, thinking you were getting sufficient amounts of dopamine (which you were). But now, without those "pickup" areas functioning (they eventually grow back over the months) you are left in the meantime with a dopamine deficiency compared to "normies". And that dear friends, is why early recovery can be all the MORE miserable than it already is, for some.
I have therefore attempted to collect only the best jokes and "fun stuff" here as I go along in life. If you can't deal with anything a little off-color, I have a suggestion: loosen up and just try to let anything that bothers you wash over you like warm shower water and enjoy yourself, for God's sakes. Things are tough enough in all likelihood. The joke list will constantly grow so come back...To each his or her own...
Grab a friend and gather 'round the computer for a few chuckles.
This will make you smile and help with any depression!! Watch this Video.
Honestly, this reminded me of one of my many trips to Mexico, where you could really let it all hang out! This may even be a video of me, as you can't really make out the face and the pig -- well, she even looks familiar..
The Squirts
"Damn! I thought I was just gonna burp... but I squirted again. I hate it when that happens!"
Just Say No To Drugs - One of the worst campaigns ever to hit America!! (It Ain't That Easy and if you are reading this you already probably said "Yes" along the way somewhere. In all seriousness this was Nancy Reagan's big campaign and it probably did more damage than good, because it gave the rest of America the idea that saying "NO" to drugs was a matter of self-will or good moral choices vs. bad moral choices when the fact of the matter is an addict can try drugs once and be hooked because he or she has a disease, while the non-diseased person remains relatively unaffected. This makes drug addicts and alcoholics appear to be weak people when in fact they are some of the strongest people on earth. Now KICK IT, and everyone will truly respect you for it. But DON'T KICK YOURSELF)
OK - Here is one of my all-time favorites. if you get really bored grab two other friends and shoot it out odds or evens, or rock paper, scissors to see who gets on their cellphone at Starbucks nearbye and pulls this off. Women can easily do it also, depending on whether other women are around -- just change the script around. Good, clean, fun -- Go for it!.
